Constantinos Kittis is a member of the Federal Council and of the Executive Committee. He has been asked to participate actively on: strategic planning; European Institutions and international relations; relations with the Turkish Cypriot businessmen’s Association; and policies of co-operation with Turkish Cypriots for a political solution. He resigned in October 2004 to undertake the Chairmanship of CyAD (Cyprus Association of Directors).
Governing Board of the Institute of Directors (IOD) Cyprus – a branch of IOD UK.
Constantinos Kittis is a former President and an active member of the board with particular responsibility on issues of corporate governance and training of directors working closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Stock Exchange Management. He resigned in June 2004 in order to establish a national association of company directors for Cyprus.
Honorary President of the European Movement
The European Movement is a political think-tank, now chaired by Mr. Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament. It is based in Brussels and has national councils in 31 European countries.
Constantinos Kittis became a member of the Cyprus council (EMC) in 1997 and in 1998 he was elected chairman. He re-launched the somewhat slow-moving organisation, with an intensive programme of activities in Cyprus, with active participation in the Federal Council meetings of the international European Movement (IEM), and building up an extensive network of contacts and relationships in over 20 European countries. The 2002 conference of the European Movement was hosted by its Cyprus Council in Nicosia, on “The Enlargement – the Day After”. It was at this conference that Commissioner Verheugen launched the Commission’s position on Cyprus’s accession prior to a political settlement.

Also, during 2001/2002 Mr. Kittis negotiated a contract for the EMC to manage the joint project (between the EC and the Government of Cyprus) for the development of a bi-communal Civil Society. The total amount of the project is € 2.9million and 76 projects have been fully financed in spite of the very difficult conditions imposed by the T/C leadership.
The project has contributed extensively to a common understanding between the peoples of Cyprus on the eve of Cyprus’s accession to the European Union. In January 2003, Constantinos Kittis stepped down from office, having completed his agenda. He was elected as honorary chairman supporting the movement at the most senior political level.
Chairman, Cyprus Association of Directors
In late 2004, Mr. Kittis was the driving force behind the establishment of the CyAD Cyprus Association of Directors, a non-profit Private Company Limited by guarantee. He was elected (in January 2005) as its first Chairman and still holds this office.
CyAD acts as “the voice of Cypriot Company Directors” and is engaging with the Supervisory Authorities of the Capital Market (Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ). It is the main interlocutor on behalf of the directors with SEC and the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives on new legislation and regulations. It is also a regular member of the Committee on the Code of Corporate Governance, which is strongly supported by CyAD.
The Association ensures the availability of specialized training seminars for directors, organizes Conferences, round tables and panel discussions and distributes publications to members in an effort to inform and upgrade the standard of professionalism, business ethics and corporate social responsibility among directors.
